I'm just starting a nuzlocke challenge on my old Pokémon Sapphire*** cartridge, and it's kind of exciting! :D If you don't know what a nuzlocke challenge is, it was popularized by
this comic and is just a set of rules one can follow in a pokémon game for fun/lots of sadness. Here's the rules that I'm following, which are pretty basic:
1.
If your pokémon faints, count it as dead not just fainted. :C (usually the rules say to release it immediately but I'm going to have a special box in my pc called "memories" bawww)
2.
All pokémon caught must be nicknamed. (usually after a theme, the random theme I chose is "characters from tv shows that my nephew watches". wtf idk, this might have to broaden if I run out of names)
3.
You can only catch the first pokémon that you meet in a route. If it faints or runs away, tough luck. If it's a repeat you have the choice to catch the next one. (I'm still pre-pokéball get stage so this is what I'm excited for)
4.
No healing in battle. (I'm going to try to aim for the more difficult rule of no healing except for pokécenters but I'll probably break)
[I think I got them all]
Like I stated above, my
Treecko Sid* and I are just starting out. We're currently level grinding so we can successfully beat Brendan. I chose a Treecko randomly through two rounds of eenie meenie miney moe, with Mudkip being knocked out in the first round. He's pretty awesome so far and his randomly chosen naughty (+attack/-special defense) nature fits in with my wish for Sceptile to be Grass/Dark (honestly, the only one to not get a second type wtf). Sadly, I'm so used to Gen IV's division of attacks into physical/special regardless of type that I forgot Grass used to be 100% special. Shoot, I was hoping he'd own with Razor Leaf/etc.
Anyway, expect updates I guess? Short ones anyway, hopefully not too many memorials ;A;
IN OTHER NEWS -> Soul Silver! My
Eevee, Teo, which I transferred over from my Eevee breeding ring gone crazy Platinum game (60+ eevees bred goddam) is fully EV-trained now and level grinding up in order to beat the E4's ass. Him and my
Dragonair, Madeleine**, are double teaming everything because I need her to level up one more time before my 9 rare candies come into play and evolve her. C:
*'Sid' is taken from Sid the Science Kid which is a decent show on PBS
**Somehow most of my team on SS ended up with psuedo-French names, huh.
***Even though I love me some Absol, and various other Pokémon of Gen III heritage, I never have had a savefile that I loved enough to stick with as I have with my 5y/o+ FireRed cartridge (ILU GUYS, KEEP KICKING BUTT)
